Morocco is a country where you can experience a taste for the exotic within a three and a half hour flight from the UK. It is now an all year round destination that enjoys an extremely pleasant climate. Marrakech has once again re-established itself as the ‘events’ city of choice.
The internationally renowned artist, Gordon Davidson has been dividing his time between Scotland and Morocco since 2007 when he and his wife renovated a riad, one of the traditional homes in Marrakech’s world famous medina.
Gordon says : “Morocco is a country of stunning beauty, variety, rich colour and vibrancy. The early morning and evening light, whether in the desert, in the Atlas mountains or the beaches make the landscapes quite literally glow with colour. Local design, the explosion of colour in and around the Marrakech medina also provides a rich source for new and exciting images. It is a real privilege to live and work in this wonderful country”.
Morocco is also a country undergoing transformation into a modern, vibrant economy, with energetic, vibrant businesses and people.
Gordon’s latest works complements and celebrates both the richness and variety of the Moroccan landscape, with contemporary modern living in Morocco. Always exploring new ideas and creative mediums, Gordon’s latest paintings on aluminium are highly decorative, contemporary works that exploits the inherent reflectivity of the material to bring an entirely new light and life to his compositions that makes the colours dance and shine.
The images created can add rich, vibrant colour to the courtyards and walls within traditional riads, use calming tones to enhance the tranquil atmosphere in a way that is almost meditative, or add to the energy and vibrancy of modern, contemporary living spaces.
Reflecting and celebrate the diversity of the forms and colours found within the Moroccan landscape.
Seductively relaxing, echoing the flowing, shimmering silks and drapes that capture and play with the Moroccan light, they add to the cooling and calming of the senses during the hot summer months.
Gordon’s images also reflect the very best of modern, contemporary living in the ‘new’ Morocco. The above image, Blue Reflections also brings the captured movements of the outside swimming pool to add to the cool of the interior.
Clever positioning and use of lighting enhances the reflectivity of the material to give this image, Essouira Sunrise, a ‘monolithic’ status.
Gordon’s paintings on aluminium are complemented by his ‘Earth Portraits’ a series that recalls satellite imagery to create new and exciting topographies o f the Moroccan landscape to enhance contemporary living spaces.
His work is being acquired by hotel and riad owners, also by private collectors looking for something different to enhance contemporary living spaces. This international’ imagery is proving very popular for property refurbishments from Knightsbridge, London, to modern interiors in Dubai.
Gordon produces modern art on a large scale for both private and corporate clients. He creates individual, bespoke, highly decorative and engaging abstract paintings using colour, movement and form to enrich the environment. They are also a great investment and are being sought by corporate clients and private collectors alike.
